Birth is messy, intense, emotional...and can also be so incredibly beautiful. It is always a HUGE honor when clients select me as their photographer for their birth session and I never leave a birth without shedding a few tears. Meghan and Max contacted me before they arrived on the island and when we finally met in person for their consultation a few months later, I was so very excited for what was to come for such a sweet couple. On July 13th, Max called right as I was finishing a newborn studio session letting me know that Meghan was admitted to the hospital. I was out the door within 15 minutes and arrived at Trippler Hospital shortly after 2pm. The afternoon was a whirlwind as Max comforted Meghan the best he could while she labored to bring their beautiful daughter into this world. Max was a constant figure next to Meghan and I often captured him whispering encouraging words, smoothing her hair from her face, or just being there for a hand to squeeze for her contraction after contraction. Meghan's parents were visiting from Michigan and it was a complete delight to see them watching their daughter become a mom for the very first time and welcome their new Grand-baby into the family...her mom, like Max, was constantly at her side and as a nurse herself, she stepped in where help was needed. Meghan was absolutely AMAZING during her labor...through the pain of contractions that seem never ending, to braving the epidural that might or might not work due to previous back surgery and the resulting rod and scar tissue, she had a sereneness and strength about her that could be felt through the entire room. I can't put into words the feeling you have watching your clients hold their baby for the very first time...to hear that first cry or to banter back and forth with their spouse on whose eyes their baby inherited...it is truly a once in a lifetime experience and every birth is so incredibly unique.
**I am no longer booking births at this time but am always happy to recommend some amazing birth photographers here on Oahu**
